What a great day for a run!
or so I thought…
By the time school finished at 2:45, the temperature was well over 40C. I didn’t think I’d be able to run until the sun went down! At the same time, I wanted to run early so that I could get home and finish off some household errands.
What to do, what to do…
In the end, Cynthia and I decided to go running just before 5pm. It was still hot–don’t get me wrong!–but we felt consolation by telling ourselves we were only going to run 5K.
I love that word: “only.”
As we were leaving the school, we saw some students who asked us if we were going running again. Cyn said, “Yeah, but only 5K.” One of the other students responded with, “Only? Only? Are you kidding me?? What do you mean only? That’s awesome!!” In a weird, kinda surreal way, that made us both feel really good. The girl was clearly implying that she couldn’t run 5K (which I know for sure she could) and that we were some sort of running goddesses for running that distance. [Note: she didn’t actually say “running goddesses,” but that’s what I heard in my head!]
The heat of the late afternoon made the run difficult, but knowing that we’d be done in just over 30 min was incentive enough.
Maybe we are running goddesses…!
