Since when has February been “hell month”??

It has been one thing after another these past few weeks…my list of things-to-do seems to keep growing, but I’m not seeing any progress in crossing things off! As my dear friend said to me the other day, “How are we supposed to get 31 days of work into 29??” Yes, it seems impossible…

What seems even more impossible is trying to fit in some good runs. I have been training for this imaginary 8K in my mind, only to discover that there is an actual 8K organized for next month at Jumeirah beach! What to do, what to do…

Part of me wants to register and run it; after all, I’ve run 8K before. Hell, I’ve run more than that! But my training hasn’t been as consistent as I’d like, and I’m worried that I’ll be huffing and puffing my way to the finish line. Luckily, I’ve still got time to register, so I think I’ll put it off for now. All I want to do is run.

The 8K training podcast has really been helping. I’m surprised at how much longer I can run just by following the routine. My pace is slower, but my distance is much longer. In the end, I am truly happy with what I have been able to achieve. Those of  you who follow me on Facebook will remember a note I posted last year entitled “The Reluctant Runner.” I still remember not being able to run for 30 seconds…that seems like so long ago. Now I know that I can do it. I feel so good when I run; I’m not sure how to put these feelings into words. I want to run all the time. I want to run with my husband. I want to run with my daughter. I want everyone to breathe in the fresh air, feel the wind in their face, sense the muscles in their legs, swing their arms back and forth…it’s such an adrenaline rush.

I am so proud to be a runner. Yeah, I can call myself that now. Me: mother, wife, daughter, sister, teacher, friend, runner. These are the words that now define me.

  1. I’m not going to lie, the four last lines you wrote were quite inspiring 🙂

I’ve been meaning to ask you what application did you use to track your runs and paces?
I’ve searched on itunes but I can’t seem to find it anywhere..

As we discussed in class, the app is called Nike+ GPS and it’s awesome. I don’t think it’s free anymore; however, I think it’s worth any price! I can show you what it looks like on my phone.
I also use the Podrunner Intervals podcast to help me train for the 8K. I still don’t know if I’ll register for the race; I just haven’t been running as much as I’d like. But thank you for the words of encouragement…I will mos def consider it! 🙂
