Wow! What a crazy week it’s been! Trust me, dear readers, I have been working out, but I’ve been so busy that I’ve had no time to post anything to my blog! Imagine being that busy…that’s just craziness!!
I think I will start from last weekend and let you know what’s been going on with my weight loss journey:
On this day, I went to the gym to work on my arms. I really, really crave the sculpted arms that I saw on Linda Hamilton in the original Terminator. Her arms are wicked awesome in that movie! Right now, I will settle for arms with some shape, and by shape, I don’t mean “oval” or “blob” (is “blob” a shape?). I have the Nike Training Club app on my phone; in the summer, I used many of these workouts to help me focus on problem areas (like arms, shoulders, abs, etc.). I love these workouts! If you are unsure of what to do when you get to the gym, I would highly recommend using the workouts on this app…you will most definitely feel it the next day!
This day was Tyrannical Tuesday with Brendan. He had written all these pairs of exercises on the whiteboard: squat to shoulder press & tricep dips, for example. We had to work on each pair for 5 minutes–no rest in between sets. So for instance, I would do 10 squats with shoulder press, then move immediately to tricep dips, then back to the squats, all for five minutes. Once that was over, we would rest for a minute, then move to another pair of exercises. As always, we were sweating and exhausted by the end…I could barely raise my arms up over my head!
Talk about being pleasantly surprised! I woke up on Day 57 and wondered if I could fit into my favorite Banana Republic pants…you know, the ones I haven’t been able to wear since the summer. Well, my friends, not only did they fit, but they fit perfectly!! I was so proud!! Finally, the fruits of my labor were beginning to show!
After school, I ran my requisite 12 laps around the track. Not too fast, unfortunately, but the point is that I did it. I am excited that all this running has become so natural for me now!
The weekend!! I had many things to do on Friday, but I made sure that working out was one of them. Again, I focused on my arms by using the Sculpted Arms workout on my NTC app. Wicked burn!!
I wanted to do some speed training today so I decided that I would do High Intensity Interval Training . I’ve been reading a lot about this over the past year. It’s when you alternate short intense exercise with less-intense recovery time. The purpose is to improve athletic conditioning and increase fat burning. Here’s what I did:
1. One lap around the track at an easy pace (400m)
2. Sprint 100m as fast as I can
3. Walk 100m to recover
4. Repeat 2 & 3 for a total of 10 times
5. One lap around the track for cool down
I think I’m going to try to do this at least once per week in place of my 12 laps. I was quite impressed by my fastest running pace: 6:12! That’s a whole minute off my regular PR!!
So my friends, my weight loss journey continues. I am sure it will continue for a long time; this is not something I plan to do for the short-term. This is a “for-the-rest-of-my-life-I-gotta-do-this” kinda thing…you know what I’m saying?
Thanks for reading, but more importantly, thanks for the support!! 🙂
