As you all know by now, today is Pilates Monday. It’s always Pilates Monday; however, I don’t usually have two after-school meetings on Pilates Monday. Which is why, dear friends, I missed my class…
No worries. I knew I was going to run today, regardless of whether I had Pilates or not. What I didn’t count on was a change in my trainer’s schedule…Brendan won’t be able to make it to our Tyrannical Tuesday session this week, which means I have to make up for the class another day. One of my partners-in-thighs told me that Brendan was training her today at 4:30…you know, I should come too. Sounded good, except that my meetings didn’t finish until 4:30. I sighed as I left the school, knowing I’d be back in a few minutes to run my rounds (literally).
As I walked back through the school gates, I thought I’d pop my head into the gym and say hello to my friends who were
killing themselves working out with Brendan. Once Brendan saw me, he quipped, “You here to work out?” This is how the rest of the dialogue played out:
Me: “No, I’m on my way to…”
Brendan: “GET OVER THERE AND GIVE ME 10 PUSH-UPS ON THE SMITH MACHINE!!”
[I didn’t even know you could do push-ups on the Smith machine!]
Uh, needless to say, I spent the next hour in the gym working on parts of my body I hadn’t planned on working out. In retrospect, I’m glad I had this workout today (please don’t tell Brendan!). It’s funny how life works out sometimes (no pun intended). I was supposed to do Pilates and got side-tracked by meetings. I was supposed to run and got side-tracked by my whacked-out trainer (whom I love dearly!!) At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter which work out I do, as long as I am doing what I set out to do. Remember my mantra: 40 and Fabulous, baby!!
